Coachella’s kickoff weekend built anticipation for Cardi B after her album released just days prior, but Beyonce broke the internet again after her powerful performance on Saturday. The festival, founded in 1999, is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. It’s an eclectic music listeners’ dream with artists from many genres, complete with art installations and sculptures.
Big ticket artists grace the main stages, which are Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, Sahara Tent, Oasis Dome, Yuma Stage, and Sonora Stage. This weekend featured The Weekend performing songs from his new album, “Call Out My Name.” Eminem performed this weekend and Cardi B did not disappoint when she twerked despite being pregnant, but no one could deny Beyonce after the internet started trending the hashtag #Beychella.
DJKaled introduced the epic performer, who sang 26 song for 2 hours straight and announced the reunion of Destiny’s Child with a performance accompanied by Michelle and Kelly. Beyonce thanked her fans for allowing her to be the first African American female headliner at the festival as she had to cancel in 2017 due to her pregnancy. Twitter lit up with fans and celebrities alike confirming the performance was the best that has ever been with one user (Hill, Jemele) describing Beyonce as “the first artist to snatch the wig off of the entire world” and the New York Times would not disagree!
If you missed this epic weekend there is another chance April 20-22 with headliners Migos, KITTENS, and French Montana. Gay Desert Guide gives access to real-time updates on their Facebook page and is using the hashtag #GaysofCoachella to connect LGBTQ festival attendees with a designated meeting spot, so take advantage for the second and final weekend of the festival!
